If you’re feeling overweight and a bit miserable about it, trust me I’ve been there.
I loved being pregnant and when my gorgeous girlie Flo was born back in May last year, I was determined to enjoy those precious first few weeks with her without stressing about my weight.
I’ll be totally honest – I can’t blame the weight gain on pregnancy – I just used it as an excuse to over-indulge! So I really went for it – I didn’t just eat one Krispy Kreme donut – I could eat 3 or 4 or 6 in a day! So I shouldn’t have been surprised to discover when I gave birth that I was carrying four extra stone in weigh!
I weighed in at 12 stone, which for my height of 5’ 2” was not healthy at all. I wasn’t in a hurry to do anything about it , until I went for a post natal check up and was told by my doctor that I was actually not just overweight but technically obese! That was a real shock. I was mortified to be honest. It suddenly hit me that I needed to do this not just for me, but for Florence – to make sure I was a healthy mum for her.
So I started doing some gentle yoga at first but then realised I needed to ramp it up if I wanted to see some results, so that’s when I worked on adding in high intensity exercises to my usual routine and created this new hybrid system I call Yoga Blitz.
It worked straight away – I lost 5 lbs in the first week and it has continued to steadily fall off me. So over the course of 6 months I have lost that 4 stone in weight and am actually slimmer now than I’ve ever been. I’ve lost 12 inches off my belly alone and dropped five dress sizes.
I devised the routines to be five minutes long because there was no way I had any more time than that in between doing Flo’s feeds, the cooking and the endless mounds of washing!
But I researched it and discovered that there’s no advantage in doing all three 5 minute routines together with the warm-up and cool down in one go – you burn just the same number of calories if you split up the workouts. So that’s how I did it – fitting them in around my mad day.
And on the diet front, I had a fantastic diet devised by a brilliant nutritionist who’s created these amaxing meal plans that don’t even look remotely like diet food. Any diet I can eat beans on toast and spag bol on is OK by me!
So good luck and please let me know how you get on – and send me your ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures because you will inspire me to keep on track too!
